The Grand Ole Opry

On Tuesday night, the Grand Ole Opry added a second show, presumably because of Carrie Underwood’s appearance, so Chris, our son, who works at the Wildhorse Saloon which is owned by the “Opry” got us some discounted tickets. Us included Tam and Mel Glover from Rapid City, SD and even though the show started at 9:30, we were ready “to party.” Montgomery Gentry, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood headlined and they were all very good. Carrie even went over her allotted time and sang a couple extra songs. So it was much fun (a couple parts were a little painful but maybe any “variety show” has weak parts), and the audience loved it. They even cheered the people we had never heard of, which actually included Montgomery Gentry and Luke Bryan!!! The show didn’t end until 11:45 PM!!! The Glovers flight back to Rapid City was to leave at 7:30 AM!! I had to be at work at my temp job which is to read copy – we all made it fine! I fell asleep twice but noone seemed to notice (that could be a problem) and I was late for work because Janice had quite the time getting back for the airport (yes, Nashville does have traffic) but we all recovered and are ready for the next adventure. Lovely people, the Glovers

The Grand Ole Opry got started as the WSM Barn Dance and then in 1926 Announcer George D. Hay commented about the NBC show Music Appreciation Hour, “For the past hour, we have been listening to music taken largely from Grand Opera. From now  on we will present the ‘Grand Ole Opry,’” The name, of course, stuck and has been used for the program since then.
