“We don’t cry in this church,” the minister chided sister Martha, whose voice cracked while she was reading “On Marriage – Kahlil Gibran,” sending a wave of emotion washing over the wedding party and guests, prompting many of them to become somewhat teary. “We save our crying for really important things, like when the (Detroit) Tigers lose or stuff like that!”

The minister, Dr. Vincent Carroll, performed an absolutely marvelous wedding ceremony, befitting the special occasion and the island setting. He had connections to the wedding parties that surfaced during the week. He had graduated from high school with one of the Iowa guests (a class of only 20). And he had married Russell’s (the groom) uncle 25 years prior with Russell being a ring bearer in that ceremony.
